Castle Pier - Dumbarton - 1890

The ground on which Port Glasgow was erected belonged originally to the estate of Newark.

It was purchased by the magistrates of Glasgow in 1668 in order to provide a convenient harbour for the merchant vessels belonging to that city - hence the name of Port Glasgow.
